Klang fire not caused by car bomb, state rep says after ‘mischievous’ online rumours

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Pictures circulating on social media of a huge cloud of smoke at a shoplot area in Andalas, Klang was the result of a fire and not a car bomb as claimed by some people online.

Seri Andalas assemblyman Dr Xavier Jeyakumar, who visited the scene of the incident, said that the rumours were works of “mischievous parties.”

“I was in the area and I spoke to the Fire and Rescue officials and also the forensic team there. What happened was there was a fire in a shoplot there,” he told Malay Mail Online.

“Because the shop has plastics and styrofoam, the fire became really bad and raged outside, affecting five cars which were totally burnt,” he added.

No casualties were reported from the incident.

The rumours began spreading just as Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that last week’s grenade attacks at a nightclub in Puchong that injured eight people is linked Islamic State (IS) terror group.

Serdang Bombing Explosion At Movida

SERDANG: Eight people were injured in an explosion at the front porch of a nightspot in IOI Boulevard here.

Selangor deputy CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Abd Rahim Jaafar said the incident occurred at about 2.15am, Tuesday.

It is learnt that patrons of the establishment were watching a Euro 2016 football match when the explosion occurred.

Puchong Fire and Rescue Department chief of operations Mohd Hisam Mat Yasih said a distress call was received at about 3am.

DCP Rahim confirmed the explosion was caused by a hand grenade.

A security guard working at the area said he saw smoke billowing from the nightspot after the explosion.

He said he saw three patrons injured by shards of broken glass.

A staff member of the nightspot said there were more than 20 patrons at the establishment, which was screening the Round of 16 match between Spain and Italy.

Singapore Airlines On fire

SINGAPORE - A Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane forced to return to Singapore due to an engine fault caught fire shortly after it landed at Changi Airport on Monday (June 27) morning.

There were no injuries but travellers booked on other early morning flights faced some delays as Runway 2 where the plane landed remains closed.

Flight SQ368 with 222 passengers and 19 crew on board, departed Changi Airport Terminal 3 for Milan, Italy, at around 2.05am on Monday.
